Lightroom 3 Beta Available!

22 10 2009

3beta2

Today Adobe Labs released an early beta of Lightroom 3. The final version has no scheduled date for release, but is expected in 2010. The purpose of putting this version out there is to get feedback from photographers. Adobe listens to its user base which is one of the reasons it’s so successful.

We like what we see so far. In addition to improved functionality, new features include more intuitive importing, unparalleled noise reduction and sharpening tools, flexible watermarking, enhanced slideshow capabilities and direct publishing to online photo sharing sites like Flickr. As you can see from the screen shots below, the interface remains the same (why mess with success?)…

Jazz Gush—Wait Till You Hear This!

17 09 2009

John Abercrombie

We’d have never gotten the September issue online were it not for the John Abercrombie Quartet. To be specific, their new CD release, Wait Till You See Her (ECM). It kept us cool (but alert) during the dog daze. Abercrombie’s guitar crossed with the dream-inducing violin wok of Mark Feldman, the fluid double-bass of Thomas Morgan, and Joey Baron’s seductive drums, kept our thunder rolling, sans the road rage common to deadline pressure. This album is pure cool-fuel, and not just for heat waves, either. Listen to the cut “Chic Of Araby” and be hooked.

Wait Till You See Her is jazz for all seasons.

You can grab it on Amazon here.

Crazy, Cool ‘Home’ Photo Bag

1 09 2009

8 Million Dollar Home

Crumpler bags have always been crazy (or rather, had crazy names), and that hasn’t changed with their fire-engine red photo bag: the 8 Million Dollar Home.

The housing market is down in the dumps, but not Crumpler. Besides, what photographer wouldn’t want to own an 8 million dollar home for under $300?

This shoulder bag is big enough to be home sweet home for a lot of your gear, yet is surprisingly compact and comfortable to carry.

Here’s the feature list:

“Water resistant 900D shell & 150D Ripstop lining, 1 x external pocket with 2 X internal pockets 2 x internal side pockets, 1 x internal mesh zip pocket & “super stealth” velcro cover, Padded & Brushed Nylon lined main compartment plus numerous configurable dividers, plastic stiffening layer in base. Adjustable removable, 13” laptop sleeve. Adjustable shoulder strap. Shoulder Pad. Side gear loops, Carry handle.”

Nice bag. And nice to know Crumpler is still crazy after all these years.
